One New Man
I graduated from a veterinary college in Korea and I worked as a veterinarian for about a year before I immigrated to the United States. Because I met with the local church in my locality in Korea, I adjusted smoothly to the local church in my new city in America. Through Watchman Nee’s and Witness Lee’s ministry and through my personal experience, I came to know that the church is the universal one new man (Ephesians 2:15). Although I realized that in the church, there are neither Jews nor Greeks and only Christ is all and in all, in the United States I came to know it actually and practically (Colossians 3:11). When I began to attend an English-speaking meeting, in January of 1997, I did not feel any discrimination at all. When I saw English speaking believers listening carefully to my sharing, even though I didn’t speak English very well, and I had a different skin color and a different culture than they did, I felt that the Lord was being expressed in these believers.
Although I was a practicing vet in Korea, in order to become a veterinarian here in America, I had to do a clinical training for a year at a veterinary college in the United States. For my one-year clinical training, I applied to Tufts University. I soon received a phone call from Tufts asking me for an interview. Actually I was happy with the phone call, but I soon became very worried because I didn’t know anybody there. But one English-speaking believer told me about another brother in the Lord who lived near that university. So I called him right away to ask if I could stay at his place. Without hesitation he said, “Brother, you can stay with me. We love you in the Lord, brother.” When I heard that, I was unspeakably impressed. I had never met him and I had never talked to him, but he and I were one in the Spirit. We were practically and actually one, and we were in the one new man. When I told my wife about that, she was impressed also. We gave the glory to the Lord together, saying, “ Hallelujah for the brothers in the local church.” The Church is really the one new man in the universe. Hallelujah!
